The Den

It has been a fantastic first month in The Den, and we are incredibly proud of how well our pupils have settled into their new environment. A big focus during these first few weeks has been on building relationships, establishing our Den routines and creating a space where every child feels safe, valued and ready to learn. We have already seen the children grow in confidence, independence and their willingness to try new things.
Learning in The Den is active, practical and designed to give our pupils opportunities to experience success. Alongside our daily literacy and numeracy, we have been busy with Forest School, cooking, science investigations, drumming, Lego sessions and our first educational visit to the farm. These experiences allow us to take learning beyond books and worksheets while developing communication, problem-solving, teamwork and resilience along the way.
Responsibility is a big part of life in The Den. Our pupils are encouraged to take ownership of our shared space and understand that everyone has an important role within our Den family. Through daily responsibilities, looking after resources, helping one another and taking pride in our environment, the children are learning that being responsible is about more than completing a job – it is about recognising how our actions and choices can make a positive difference to others.
Harmony’s values of Cooperation, Respect, Open-mindedness, Equality and Compassion are woven into everyday life in The Den. We explore what these values look like, sound like and feel like in real situations: working together, showing kindness and understanding, managing disagreements, listening to another person’s point of view, celebrating each other’s successes and supporting someone who may be finding things difficult.
The Den is about supporting the whole child. Alongside academic progress, we are helping our pupils to understand and manage their emotions, develop positive relationships, build resilience and recognise their own individual strengths. It has been wonderful to see our Den community beginning to take shape, and we are excited to continue building on such a positive start throughout the year.
Together we learn. Together we succeed.
